Scope & Content |
Alhambra Flume & Mercantile Company ledgers between 1888-1893. Includes both Accounts Receivable/Daybooks for the Mercantile Store and Accounts Payable (Expense) Ledgers for the entire business operation, along with an Order List. These are two different accounts payable ledgers, which include expenses paid to various people and businesses. Most payments were made ot what are likely employees or sub-contractors for lumber. Lists names of payee's. It also appears the company paid for their employees' boarding expenses. Folder 1: January 25, 1888 - June 30, 1888 (p1-p74=74 pages); unused blank pages 75-696; missing July 1, 1889 - October 14, 1891. Size: 13.5" x 8.5" Folder 2: October 15, 1891 - January 19, 1893 (p.21-p.143=122 pages); blank unused pages 144-188; missing pages 1-20; the business began operation in 1887 and closed in early 1893. These ledgers includes the names of employees, vendors and espenses. Key names: Glass, Halford, Haynes, G. Hill, Kleinschmidt, Logan, Lyon, Redding, Roe, and Stevenson & Bach Cory and Company. The entire collection is extremely fragile, due to serous damage, appearing to be from water, fire, soot, dirt, etc. What little binding remaining is falling apart and most pages have sustained some type of damage. Some of the pages are barely legible, do not discard them. Improved legibility may be possible with scanning and manipulation in Photoshop. Minimize removal of any portions of this collection from plastic sleeves. Scan the entire collection ASAP and keep a back-up of the scanned electtronic files off site. Print a hard cpy of the entire collection for patron & staff use. |
