A 12" x 18" framed poster with biographical information about Frank Showers. Frank Showers was born in August 1855 in Champaign County Ohio. Frank was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1879. In 1889, Frank moved his family to Boulder, Montana where he was in partnership with attorney George D. Greene. They set up their law practice in the Bach, Cory & Co. Store (209 N. Main). Judge Showers was elected Judge of the Fifth Judicial District court in 1892. He ran again for the judgeship in 1896, but lost the election. During his term, Judge Showers dealt with many high profile trials including water rights of the Beaverhead River, rape and murder cases. Frank was a resident of Whitehall for at least 20 years, moving there around 1902. While there, he had a law practice and pursued mining interests. Judge Showers was elected Jefferson County Attorney in 1910, serving for about a year. He resigned before the term was up and returned to mining for the next decade. By 1925, Frank was a resident of the Jefferson County Poor Farm in Boulder, reportedly due to mining failures. Frank passed away on about March 10th, 1926. Sadly, a few days before his death, he disappeared from the county hospital. His body was found about 12 miles away, dying from expoure to the cold. Death records indicate he was buried in the Boulder Cemetery, but no headstone bears his name. |
