Black and white photo postcard of Boulder Girls: Steele sisters with Carson & Sloan; (L-R) Back-Jeanette Carson, Marguerite Steele; Front- Lillian Sloan, Jessie Steele; white border; names handwritten on front; reverse side: was never mailed and no message. Date: c1910 (based on girl's ages, appearing to be about 9-12) Biographies: -Jeanette Nettie Carson Meigs (1899-1991); Boulder resident: 1899-1923 was born in Basin in 1899 and grew up in Boulder. She left Boulder following her marriage to Guy Meigs in 1923. Jeanette's father, Herman A. Carson (1860-1917) arrived in Montana by 1881, locting In Jefferson County by 1899. He was engaged in Mining and concrete industries. -Lillian Sloan Robinson (1901-1993); Boulder resident: 1901-1936 was born and raised in Boulder. She graduated from Jefferson High School and went on to the University of Montana to earn a degree in business administration. In 1926, Lillian married Dale Robinson. They continued to reside in Boulder until 1936. The couple had one child, Virginia. Lillian died in Helena in 1993. Lillian's parents were Seymour and Leona (1877-1951) Sloan. Seymour (1866-1947) was born in Boulder in 1866 and was virtually a life-long resident. His parents were erly pioneers that homesteaded in the Boulder area in 1865. -Marguerite Steele Slade (1899-1977); Boulder resident: 1899-1940 was born in Basin and grew up in Boulder. After marrying James Slade (1889-1981) in 1920, the couple lived in Boulder until about 1940. From 1937 until 1940, Marguerite was very active in the Boulder American Legion Auxiliary. Her sister was Jessie Steele and their parents were John and Mary Steele. John was a Boulder merchant for 43 years. -Jessie Steele Taylor (1901-1967); Boulder resident: 1899-1926 was born in Basin and grew up in Boulder. She graduated from Jefferson High in 1921. Jessie was active in the Methodist Church Epworth League. In 1926, she married Grover Taylor (1902-1983), who was born in Gregory and grew up in Boulder. The couple moved to Helena, where Grover worked as a butcher. |
