Black and white, round bordered photo postcard of Lena Jackson Milliron Madden of Boulder (name handwritten on front); reverse side: from Lena to Mrs. Dell Bricker (her aunt) in Iowa "...I am working now...every little helps." Lena was 14 years old in 1912. Date: Boulder postmark August 10, 1912. Lena Jackson Milliron Madden (1897-1970) was born in Iowa, arriving in Boulder with her parents by 1900. She attended grade school in Boulder and married Clyde Milliron at the age of 15, in 1913. The couple lived in Basin and had three daughters. They divorced around 1918. In 1919, Lena married James Madden (1893-1971). James was born in Wickes and grew up in Basin. His father was James Sr. (1858-1926), a miner, and his mother was Alice (1867-1954) Madden. His parentw remained in Basin for the rest of their lives. Following their marriage, the Lena and James Jr. livedi n Basin until 1927, where James worked in the mining indutry. Even after they moved to East Helena, the couple had strong family ties to Jefferson County. |
